The Skeleton is an enemy archetype and a playable race in Dungeon Siege.

This is the description of the Skeletons according to the Microsoft Games Website[1]

"Demonstrating the evil nature of the forces in power, fallen warriors have been reanimated to turn against their own kind. Equipped with the weapons and armor they were laid to rest with, these skeletons have repopulated long silent dungeons and are eager to increase their ranks by taking you with them."
―Narrator

Skeleton[]

The eponymous Skeleton is a relatively early encounter. It wears no armour. Skeletons are armed with a random low-grade mace. When they get close to a player, they can deal a considerable amount of damage for the stage in the campaign in which they are encountered. However, it is uncommon for Skeletons to be able to mob the player.

Skeletons move extremely slowly, swaying from side to side as they walk. You can always tell when a skeleton is around due to the clinking of bones. Their slow speed means that archers and magic users will be able to effectively destroy them at long range.

The only drops that one would expect to get from Skeletons would be their weapon. It is unusual that they sometimes drop potions and gold when there is no place on them to store such items.

General Information[]

Skeletons are the undead brought back to life through the power of magic. Because of the decaying of their flesh, skeletons have only the binding power of magic to keep them from falling apart and as such, they cannot move very fast and sway from side to side.

Most skeletons are the reanimated remains of humans, however other races have been known to return from the dead.

Skeletons are first encountered in Dungeon Siege inside a small secret dungeon off the path inside the dark forest. Two will appear when a statue is turned inside the dungeon. However because it is not on the path and most players will miss it, it is far more likely that the player will first encounter Skeletons just outside the Crypt.

Basic skeletons may be summoned by Level 10 combat mages, should they have the mana available to do so.

As a Playable Race[]

Skeleton

In multiplayer, the skeleton can be selected as a player character with all the features of the more conventional race choices. In particular, its walking speed and animations have been changed to meet player norms. Its starting title is "Corpse."
